What you can expect from this position: Working with the Manager, Airside Electrical, this position plans, organizes and oversees electrical maintenance, repair and electrical project work related to airfield lighting and building electrical systems. As a Technical Specialist, Airfield Electrical, you will: Train and lead Airfield Electrical Workers to perform tasks specific to maintaining the airside electrical systems and support facilities. Meet with staff regularly and conduct safety meetings. Support the creation and continuous improvement of the Asset Management Plans and Maintenance Program. Procure equipment and materials for planned and unplanned work. Recommend replacements and restorations to the manager of the unit. Tour areas of responsibility, noting discrepancies and possible improvements; make spot checks of work in progress to ensure it is being performed in accordance with the asset management program. Comply to and enforce the required regulatory standards\codes and is accountable for his team’s safety practices. Provide input in establishing and guides the preventive maintenance program for airside electrical systems. Prepare the timekeeping system for sign off by the manager. Assist in the review of proposed contracts for airport street lighting, switchgear electrical maintenance, Uninterruptible power sources and other airport electrical components. Review plans for contracted alterations, make recommendations concerning electrical matters in meeting forums. Prepare periodic reports, including activities performed and associated costs with the Manager of the unit. Directly oversee complex electrical work to ensure the continued operation of Airside Electrical Systems. This unionized position is classified at the Band 9 level, with an hourly wage rate of $ based on a 40 hour work week. A practical and written test will be administered as part of the competitive process. This is the role for you, if you have: 3 years of Airport Electrical Department experience required. Electrical license 309A - Electrical Construction and Maintenance Certificate of Qualification. “D” level Airside Vehicle Operator’s Permit. Minimum secondary school or (grade 12 equivalent). Ability to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance. Knowledge and skills you bring, that set you up for success: Extensive knowledge of the technologies involved with the various Airfield Electrical Systems located at the airport. Ability to coordinate various tasks for maintenance activity planning. Detailed knowledge of High Voltage Power Distribution Systems and Power Transfer Systems. Comprehensive knowledge of Airport Airfield Lighting Control Systems including Hardware, Software and all relevant interfaces. Good working knowledge and understanding of Canadian Electrical code/Ontario Electrical code and the Canadian Labour Code is required. Good working knowledge of AMMS and MDC Scheduler. Knowledge of the Airport layout and Operational Procedures, as well as all relative Safety and Security Systems, Procedures and requirements. Working knowledge of NavCanada’s Airfield Lighting Panel and its’ operation. Thorough knowledge of Transport Canada Operation Manual TP312E. In depth knowledge of the Airport Inspection Maintenance System. Working knowledge of the Airport Runway Monitoring System. Ability to conduct cost estimations for various in-house projects and emergency.
