Mortgage Underwriter

Working together to be our best We are hiring a Mortgage Underwriter, Residential Underwriting Reporting to the Manager, Residential Underwriting, the Residential Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for rendering credit decisions on incoming applications within their authorized limits and with adherence to company and insurer policies and guidelines while focusing on service excellence. The Mortgage Underwriter has responsibility for applying due diligence when reviewing required documentation to ensure accuracy and to protect the Company from risk. Manage files from the time they are committed by the underwriter until all of the broker’s conditions are met on the commitment. Reporting To: Manager, Residential Underwriting Full-Time/Part- Time: Full-time Posting Date: March 4, 2024 Closing Date: March 11, 2024 Hours of Work: 8:30 – 5:00 Grade: Office Location: Vancouver Great location Steps away from the main public transit station What we offer: Highly competitive compensation package which includes, base salary, bonus, benefits, and career advancement opportunities *Eligibility for benefits is dependent on the terms of employment Adjudicates mortgage applications within established authority limits while ensuring adherence to policies and guidelines Establishes and maintains positive relationships with mortgage brokers to build loyalty to the Company Maintains positive relationships with external partners such as mortgage insurers, appraisers, title insurance companies, and solicitors Interacts with Mortgage Insurers where applicable to complete credit lending decisions Ensures due diligence has been completed prior to signing off on any mortgage conditions or documents, where applicable Prepares and issues mortgage commitments with appropriate conditions within established service level agreements/turnaround times Prioritizes applications and workflow to ensure consistent and sound risk assessments are maintained while managing high volumes and a continued focus on service excellence Stays current with latest industry knowledge, competition, and market trends Skills and Attributes: Ability to build and maintain positive relationships Strong aptitude for service excellence Strong communication skills—both written and verbal Ability to manage and resolve conflict Strong analytical skills Attention to detail Organizational and time management skills Positive team player with desire and ability to mentor others Effective problem solving and decision making skills Fully competent in working with basic PC software and working knowledge of the suite of Microsoft office products Ability to manage pressure in an environment of high volume processing with tight turnaround times The Requirements Needed: Completed post-secondary education or equivalent work experience required Working knowledge of PC software in a Windows environment required The team you will join: Founded in 1988, First National is one of Canada’s largest non-bank lenders.
