About the role

Coast Underwriters is looking for a Senior Commercial Marine Underwriter to join our growing team

What you'll do here:

Accept, reject, endorse, renew or cancel policies following Coast's underwriting guidelines and procedures, applicable laws and regulations and subject to authority level as specified by underwriting manager. Focus on sustainable profitable growth Develop business opportunities and long-term meaningful relationships with brokers Use effective communication and negotiating skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company Respond to broker requests and concerns in a timely manner Participate in broker visits, industry functions and marketing events in support of broker relationship development. Rate and prepare quotes for new business and renewals Handle policy transactions including renewals, endorsements and cancellations. Review underwriting reports and make recommendations as required. Communicate changes related to product pricing, underwriting guidelines and new products. Support and mentor team members within Coast Underwriters as well as other divisions at Intact.

What you bring to the table:

University degree/College diploma or any combination of equivalent education and experience Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience. Prior Marine experience is a desirable asset. Strong customer service and time management skills Demonstrates initiative, the ability to work under pressure, and are flexibility to change Strong team player possessing outstanding collaboration and communication skills Inquisitive and self-motivated individual possessing strong analytical and negotiating skills Ability to develop and maintain excellent relationships with brokers Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to make decisions in time sensitive situations, address complex problems, provide recommended course of action and take calculated risks Interested in and stay up to date on business trends or other developments impacting our industry Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products CIP designation or working towards designation No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
