This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a dynamic municipal environment while applying your expertise in accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls   POSITION OVERVIEW The City of Maple Ridge is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical professional to join our Finance team as an Accountant 2. Reporting to the Manager of Accounting, the Accountant 2 performs complex accounting work with a primary focus on the City’s tangible capital assets and/or capital project tracking. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a dynamic municipal environment while applying your expertise in accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls.  In addition, the Accountant 2 will be responsible for analyzing variances, preparing reconciliations and general ledger adjustments, and supporting City departments as their Finance Business Partner. This position plays a critical role in supporting the accuracy, transparency, and effectiveness of the City’s financial practices. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve working with various internal and external parties and ensuring our processes meet all legislative and policy requirements. This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, values continuous improvement, and is looking to grow within a supportive municipal team.    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Considerable knowledge of the accounting methods and procedures used in the work.  Sound knowledge of the computer applications used in the work.  Ability to prepare and analyze accounting records, financial statements, projections and other financial documents.  Ability to research and recommend changes to accounting and internal control procedures.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.  Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.   DESIRABLE TRAIING AND EXPERIENCE High school graduation supplemented by completion of intermediate level courses leading to designation as a Certified Professional Accountant plus sound related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.   PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS • Completion of intermediate-level courses toward a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, supported by post-secondary coursework in accounting or finance • 3 – 5 years of experience in a similar accounting or finance role, preferably in a municipal or complex environment • Considerable knowledge of accounting principles, methods, and procedures • Sound understanding of financial systems and accounting software   EQUITY STATEMENT At the City of Maple Ridge, we are dedicated to cultivating an inclusive culture that actively values and embraces diversity.
