The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026.The successful candidate will be considered for appointment to the endowed USW/Leo Gerard Chair in Collective Bargaining and Worker Representation for a five-year term, which will be renewable following a favourable review. The USW/Leo Gerard Chair will play a critical role in the Centre for Industrial Relations and Human Resources wide network of governmental, union and industry stakeholders, working with the Centre’s stakeholders to drive solutions-oriented research and impactful engagement related to collective bargaining and worker/workplace representation as well as employee voice.Candidates must hold a PhD degree in industrial relations or an associated social science discipline, with a clearly demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching in the area of worker/workplace representation, collective bargaining and labour policy. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing . Candidates will have an established international reputation and will be expected to sustain and lead innovative and independent research, and to maintain an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of sustained high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline, as well as strong endorsements from referees. Candidates must also provide evidence of their research impact via policy, industry and/or civil society.The successful candidate will be expected to conduct innovative and independent research and build partnerships with unions, employers, non-profit organizations, and government. The USW/Leo Gerard Chair will lead conversations on the future of collective bargaining, focusing on private-sector renewal in Canada and bringing a global perspective to labour relations. The successful applicant will teach undergraduate and graduate courses at the University of Toronto St. George campus and contribute to the Graduate Department of CIRHR through teaching and supervising master’s and doctoral students.Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application (with required materials outlined below), or other evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities submitted as part of the application, as well as strong letters of reference.The rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
