This is a new role within the Training and Development team, designed to strengthen our learning and development capabilities. The Instructional Designer develops effective and engaging training solutions that support operational excellence and workforce development. Reporting to the National Manager, Training and Development in Edmonton, AB, the incumbent applies adult learning principles, instructional design expertise, and strong project management skills to ensure that learning initiatives align with corporate goals, regulatory requirements, and the operational needs of DCC’s business groups.KEY AND PERIODIC ACTIVITIESThe duties and responsibilities listed below are representative but not all-inclusive: PrimaryAssess training needs to identify learning objectives and performance gapsDesign and develop instructional materials for digital and instructor-led training programs, including storyboards, scripts, facilitator guides and learner guidesCollaborate with subject matter experts, event planners and stakeholders to align educational content with business goals and learner needsServe as a technical resource for the creation and delivery of digital and instructor-led training programsEvaluate training materials and recommend enhancements or redesigns based on effectiveness and learner feedbackCollaborate on the design of educational components for conferences, including keynote addresses, workshops and breakout sessionsMaintain organized project documentation and track progress using sound project-management practicesDevelop and maintain effective relationships within DCC, and with industry, Client-Partners and stakeholdersEnsure quality standards are met, in line with corporate expectationsOtherMeasure learning outcomes and training effectivenessTest course functionality and analyze Learning Management System performance data to inform ongoing improvementsOther duties as assignedSKILLSGeneral and Specific KnowledgeBest practices, methods, trends and legislation in instructional design, adult learning and learning technologiesContent-creation software (e.g., Articulate 360)Online learning management systemsProject-management principlesFormal Education and/or Certification(s) and ExperienceMinimum: University degree in instructional design or adult learning with eight years’ relevant experience, or the equivalentPreferred: Professional designation in instructional design and/or project managementAbilitiesUse applicable computer software and operating systemsWrite and explain detailed and technical training programs and conceptsDemonstrate strong attention to detailApply project-management principlesDEVELOPMENT AND LEADERSHIPProvide functional advice and guidance to employees, subject matter experts and stakeholdersWORKING CONDITIONSTypical office environment with occasional travelHybrid work environmentCheck out your benefitsWorking with us offers excellent opportunities for growth and advancement—and entitles you to one of the job market’s best benefits packages valued at between 25 and 30% of your salary.Your package includes:Health and Wellness100% employer-paid annual sick leave, and health and dental premiums$400 wellness allowance to help cover expenses such as a gym membership$2,500 for mental health services on top of regular $1,500 paramedical coverageTelus Virtual Health Care and $750 Health Care Spending Account for some expenses not covered under provincial plansHome and FamilyLife, accidental-death, and short-term disability insuranceEnhanced inConfidence employee and family assistance programMaternity and parental leave top-up plan to 93% of regular gross earnings for up to 37 weeksFlexible workplace options, including $400 allowance every two years, to support working from homeLeave and RetirementPublic-service pensionComprehensive vacation and other paid-leave plans, along with deluxe travel benefit plans***Candidates will be required to submit work samples or a portfolio as part of the selection process (to be uploaded in the ‘Add Attachment’ section when applying).***#IND1
