Role & Responsibilities

EMS-Tech owes our success to our commitment to engineering excellence and customer satisfaction. As a global leader in bulk material handling system, the efficiency of our organizational and operational processes is critical. To help maintain and grow this high standard, were seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee daily activities throughout our global operations from our Head office located in Belleville Ontario.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a technical engineering environment, knowledge of business fundamentals, and proven success in coordinating multiple departments for maximum productivity. This person will be an excellent communicator and facilitator for human resources, procurement, quality, and IT management, and be able to develop and maintain an environment of trust, diversity, inclusion and equity within the operations team. With locations in Canada, Europe, Australia, and China, communication skills and the ability to travel are critical to our success.

Objectives of this role

Global Operations Oversight - Manage and oversee operational activities across all five global sites: ensuring effective maintenance and management of buildings, infrastructure, and general operations. Oversee and manage overhead budgets across all sites.

Cost Savings - Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining operational effectiveness. Optimize overhead and operational efficiency and comply with local regulations.

Research & Development Coordination Serve as the primary interface between R&D and operations. Maximize government incentives related to R&D efforts.

Process Improvement & Efficiency - Identify and implement process improvements using operational excellence methodologies. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity.

Business Systems & Technology Integration - Leverage new technologies to streamline operations and improve data-driven/metrics decision-making. Facilitate processes and process changes across departments.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Development - Lead, mentor, motivate, and support a large team within a time-sensitive and demanding environment, including growth and development plans for direct reports.

Performance Optimization - Manage data collection for the updating of internal metrics to achieve productivity targets, reduce cost per unit, eliminate errors, and deliver excellent customer service. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve proprietary tools and system. Ensure compliance with legal and safety departments.

Operational Budgets Manage operational activities to ensure they remain on schedule and within budget constraints. Oversee overhead budgets across all sites, ensuring financial efficiency and timely execution of tasks. Conduct thorough budget reviews and report cost plans to upper management, maintaining clear communication and transparency in financial planning and execution.

Communication - Maintain effective communication with managers, staff, and customers to ensure smooth and efficient operations across all company sites. Coordinate and facilitate information flow to address operational needs and resolve any issues that may arise. Your efforts will help sustain optimal performance and support the overall success of the company.

Quality Assurance Work within our established and robust quality management system to identify and implement process improvements and objectives reporting. Your efforts will be crucial in upholding the company's commitment to excellence, fostering continuous improvement, and delivering exceptional value to customers.

Administrative Coordination - Gather and organize information, schedules, and agendas from presenters. Prepare confidential minutes for the Senior Management and Executive Teams, ensuring that all key points and decisions are accurately documented and communicated. Your meticulous attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive information will be instrumental in supporting the smooth and efficient operation of the executive team's activities.

Required skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (Engineering, Business Administration)
  • Proven success in an Operations Management role or related role
  • Strong skills in budget development and oversight
  • Excellent ability to delegate responsibilities while maintaining organizational control of branch operations
  • Knowledge of business productivity software and an aptitude for learning new applications
  • Strong project planning and project management experience

Preferred skills and qualifications

  • Six Sigma Certification or Lean Certification considered an asset
  • Financial and Budget Management Expertise
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) considered an asset
  • Bilingual or Polyglot considered an asset
