We are seeking a Peer Environmental Service Worker who is enthusiastic and passionate about opportunities to work with
individuals in the community. Our Peer Environmental Service Workers are key members of frontline teams, including CI
Housing. This role contributes to the support of our clients in providing invaluable services to individuals with addiction
and/or mental health concerns within the Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington (KFLA) communities.
While this is contract, anyone hired into a temporary role with the agency is able to apply as an Internal candidate for

Our[Peer Environmental Service Worker positions are members of Ontario Public Sectors Employee’s Union
(OPSEU/SEFPO) Local 489 and work from various locations throughout KFLA.
Job Summary:
The Peer Environmental Service worker, reporting to the Comprehensive Integrated (CI) Housing Manager, works as a part
of an interdisciplinary team providing psychosocial rehabilitation and person-centred support to individuals within the
Comprehensive Integrated Housing Program. This program provides support to those with a history of long-term
hospitalizations and/or who require comprehensive and integrated supports and services to assist with the transition to
living in the community and/or minimizing the occurrence of hospitalizations. The CI Housing team member aims to build
the capacity and strengths of individuals and be an integral member in building a sense of community within the residential
setting based on the principles of psycho-social rehabilitation and the recovery model. This incumbent performs custodial
duties, minor maintenance, and other miscellaneous duties to ensure that the Agency’s comprehensive integrated housing
property is maintained in a healthy, safe and sanitary manner. The Peer Environmental Service worker will provide side
by side intervention, coaching and encouragement to support clients in becoming increasingly independent with keeping
their living space clean and safe. Working collaboratively with individuals, team members, and community stakeholders,
the incumbent will lead by championing the sanitation of the community and work alongside individuals, building
knowledge, skills, and confidence for household management skills and hygiene in their living space. All services are
provided in accordance with the mission and established protocols of the Agency and the principles of psychosocial
rehabilitation.
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of OSSD
Certificate or diploma in environmental services preferred
Two years of relevant environmental services experience required
Paid or volunteer experience working with individuals who live with a serious mental illness, dual diagnosis or
concurrent disorder, preferably in a community setting
Experience as a recipient of mental health services for serious mental illness, dual diagnosis, or concurrent disorder
Certification in First Aid and CPR
Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training
Crisis Prevention & Intervention training
WHMIS training
French Language proficiency considered an asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated knowledge of standard cleaning procedures, chemicals, products, and equipment
Demonstrated ability to understand labels and instructions, particularly on the use and application of cleaning
chemicals and products
Ability to utilize own personal, practical experience, self-knowledge and first-hand insight to benefit clients and team
members
Knowledge of and ability to apply Psychosocial Rehabilitation principles
Knowledge of and ability to apply the principles of recovery
Ability to effectively utilize community resources and supports to meet the needs of clients
Ability to work under pressure within a changing environment
Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act and other relevant legislation
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to establish rapport with persons living with a serious mental
illness
Well-developed problem-solving, prioritization and conflict resolution skills
Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team environment
Basic proficiency in computer skills including the use of MS Office
Ability to work days, evenings, and weekends
Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License and have regular access to a reliable vehicle and provide proof of
$2,000,000 vehicle insurance. Incumbent may be required to transport clients.
Required to provide a satisfactory criminal reference check (CRC) with Vulnerable Sector Screening prior to hire.
