Duties

Working under the supervision of the Interpretation Officer/Coordinator, the Heritage Presenter delivers interpretive presentations, programs, activities, and special events that engage visitors in the learning, enjoyment, connection to, and appreciation of the cultural and natural heritage of the Sault Ste. Marie Canal and Baawaating region.

Work environment

Nestled beneath the International Bridge in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, the Sault Ste. Marie Canal was built to bypass the rapids on the St. Marys River. Opened in 1895, the canal completed an all-Canadian waterway featuring the longest lock in the world and the first to operate using electricity.

Known as Baawaating, this region holds profound significance as home and sacred gathering place for Indigenous peoples. The dedicated Visitor Experience team at the Sault Ste. Marie Canal strives to convey the narratives of innovation and historical significance.
