POSITION: MRT (Radiography) / Educator

DEPARTMENT: Diagnostic Imaging

CONDITIONS: Temporary Full-time for approximately twelve (12) months

HOURS: Approximately 75.0 Bi-weekly Hours

SHIFTS: Days / Nights / Evenings / Weekends, 7.5 hours per shift (subject to change)

WAGE RATE: Scale Minimum Maximum OPSE09 $43.39/hr $55.02/hr

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The primary function of this position is to perform all types of Radiological examinations (Radiology, Fluoroscopy, Bone Density, CT Scan, Gastrics) on all types of patients in a caring customer focused manner consistent with your level of knowledge, skill, judgment and training, while adhering to all QCH and department policies and procedures.
  • The incumbent is also responsible for coordinating, supervising and monitoring the radiological student training program to ensure completion of the affiliated CMA accredited Medical Radiation Technologists training program requirements.
  • Performs or supervises students performing routine Radiology procedures according to departmental protocols, professional association guidelines and professional college standards of practice.
  • Ensure that students are provided with and use the appropriate equipment/material/procedures required to perform the assigned duties. Ensures that all students perform work in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all Queensway Carleton Hospital Corporate/Departmental policies and procedures. Ensure that appropriate action is recommended for those students who do not work in compliance with the Act.
  • Evaluates student performance through observation and collection of feedback. Completes formal evaluation processes (including scheduling and completion of necessary documents according to affiliated program requirements).
  • Prepares action plan(s) to deal with performance deficiencies and communicates with staff as required to support process.
  • Monitors student performance and program effectiveness via input from affiliated facility personnel, area supervisors, Program Director, technologists and students.
  • Performs final assessment of clinical competency of each student, enabling program completion and eligibility for writing of CAMRT Certification examination. Provides formal references related to student performance.
  • To attend student training affiliation meetings on-site and or off-site as required.
  • Performs or supervises all routine and specialized examinations while giving attention to radiation protection and special requests so as to produce images of the highest quality
  • Practice within the Code of Ethics of the College of Medical Radiation Technologists of Ontario and the Canadian Association of Medical Radiological Technologists, the hospital and department policies and procedures, and take particular precautions to follow the isolation procedures and use protective devices provided when exposed to infectious patients.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduated from an accredited school of Medical Radiation Technology with a specialty in Radiography (R)
  • Must be registered with the College of Medical Radiation Technologists of Ontario (CMRTO) as a MRT(R)
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Registered with the CAMRT an asset
  • Ongoing continuing education including Student training/education
  • Student Supervisory experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent technical and patient care skills
  • Demonstrated leadership and coaching ability
  • General knowledge regarding the operation of computers, automated and semi-automated instrumentation/equipment.
