The University of Sherbrooke is seeking an IT Infrastructure Technician to support the teaching and research activities of its Faculty of Engineering. You will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing our IT systems, essential for training tomorrow's engineers and realizing innovative projects. Under the direction of your immediate supervisor, perform various technical work related to the installation, maintenance, use, and procurement of IT equipment. Also provides IT support to users.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, install, repair and maintain IT equipment up-to-date and operational, both at the operating system and software level, through testing and analysis.
  • Ensure backup management of systems.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to users for requests or incidents related to information systems, software, and hardware, in person, by phone, or via remote session.
  • Assemble, adapt, and appropriately mount devices, different systems, or informational assets.
  • Diagnose encountered problems and breakdowns and take appropriate measures to ensure the proper functioning of equipment.
  • Perform technical writing and update knowledge base articles.
  • Identify problematic situations for the clientele under your responsibility.
  • Find solutions, document them, and perform appropriate follow-ups in the IT request management system.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of systems and equipment for which you are responsible.
  • Propose innovative and modern solutions in the field of information technology.
  • Advise and propose equipment, tools, or software according to needs.
  • Participate in preparing technical specifications and request quotes for purchasing IT equipment, initiate orders in the financial system.
  • Manage the IT inventory and ensure it is continuously updated, lend devices as needed.
  • Apply established processes and procedures to ensure the proper functioning of the unit. Participate in modernizing them when necessary.
  • Collaborate with other technical teams or user groups, as well as partners and institutional suppliers.
  • Ensure administrative management and maintain up-to-date lists of user codes, groups, and permissions applicable according to roles and responsibilities.
  • Maintain technological awareness by keeping up-to-date with new technologies or technological developments in your field.
  • May direct support staff, collaborating in their training, distributing work, and verifying execution.
  • Temporarily perform tasks of a related or lower position when required.
Required Qualifications:
  • Education: College diploma in regular systems techniques or equivalent.
  • Experience: 2 years.

Requirements:
  • Relevant experience with networking protocols and IT infrastructure, particularly servers, storage units, and backup strategies.
  • Familiarity with the software service layer of infrastructures (Active Directory, LDAP, DNS/DHCP, etc.).
  • Mastery of Windows and Linux operating systems management and administration, in both Workstation and Server mode.
  • Knowledge of technologies like Virtualization, PowerShell, Docker, etc.
  • Good communication skills and ability to translate business needs into value.
  • Autonomy, creativity, and excellent self-learning ability.
  • Experience with network management and securing components, particularly servers and workstations.
  • Knowledge of managing security alerts appropriately.
Working Conditions

Class 11

Hourly rate: $31.97 to $38.36

Regular full-time position, 35 hours a week spread over 5 workdays of 7 hours each from Monday to Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
