Job Description:

The Manager of Biomedical Engineering will be responsible for overseeing the Biomedical Engineering services and the lifecycle management and support of all medical equipment and systems throughout the healthcare system. Reporting to the Director of Biomedical Engineering, this position will work closely with departmental leaders to develop and implement strategies for ensuring the effective and efficient use of Biomedical technologies within the organization. This position will lead a team of Biomedical Engineering Technologists, providing guidance and support to ensure the highest levels of service and quality.

Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee day-to-day operations of the Biomedical Engineering Department to ensure delivery of quality services across SHN hospitals.
  2. Prioritize service work in accordance with departmental and organizational goals and objectives.
  3. Manage monthly Preventive Maintenance (PM) schedules and workload to ensure compliance and safe operation of medical equipment.
  4. Monitor and oversee all Corrective Maintenance (CM) and repair activities of malfunctioning medical equipment.
  5. Create an environment in which all staff in the department have opportunities to influence development and planning.
  6. Develop and foster a learning culture, encouraging staff to attend and learn from training programs.
  7. Lead and direct the team of Biomedical Engineering technologists, providing guidance and professional development.
  8. Conduct performance evaluations, set measurable goals and objectives, and provide feedback.
  9. Participate in the development and implementation of risk-based approaches to improving the cost-effectiveness of equipment lifecycle management strategies.
  10. Monitor and track medical device hazards/recalls and safety reports.
  11. Ensure advice and support is provided to adverse incident investigations involving medical devices.
  12. Develop and maintain effective working partnerships with clinical staff and other leaders.
  13. Collaborate to support Capital Equipment planning activities.
  14. Maintain up-to-date knowledge on medical equipment technology trends and management methodologies.
  15. Active leadership and participation on relevant hospital committees and working groups.
  16. Perform other related duties and/or projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering or related engineering disciplines, Master’s degree preferred.
  2. Minimum five (5) years of recent experience managing Biomedical Engineering operations in a hospital environment.
  3. Minimum three (3) years of experience in supporting networked medical devices and systems.
  4. Strong technical and operational management skills and experience.
  5. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Ability to promote staff morale, engagement, and risk-taking.
  7. Strong knowledge and experience of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
