We are hiring an Oracle Database Administrator to work with one of our clients, an international investment bank based in Montreal.


About the role:

The IT infrastructure division is responsible for supporting a wide range of IT services. The mission is to provide business divisions with secure and reliable infrastructure, including hosting business applications, offering cloud solutions, and managing connectivity and digital workplace services, while also contributing to the organization's digital transformation.

The Database Administration (DBA) department provides hosting services and expertise for major database technologies, including Oracle, MSSQL, Sybase, PostgreSQL, and Big Data solutions. The DBA team operates in multiple regions, maintaining high service levels in critical environments across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, and supporting business partners in their database-related needs.


In this context, we are looking for an Oracle Database Administrator to join the team. The role involves supporting the existing infrastructure, assisting clients with database-related projects, and contributing to the development of automation tools and APIs.


Day-to-day responsibilities :

  • Install, configure, manage, and maintain databases
  • Ensure database health, resiliency, performance tuning, optimization, operational control, support, and inventory management
  • Work closely with developers and application support teams to provide technical assistance
  • Participate in on-call rotations, handling alerts and escalations during business and off-hours, including weekends and holidays
  • Set up and maintain database backup and recovery procedures
  • Provide technical documentation
  • Support and implement database changes while ensuring quality assurance
  • Perform capacity planning for databases
  • Contribute to strategy development and implementation within the team


PROFILE

Technical Expertise:

  • Administration and optimization of Oracle (12C, 19C) and SQL Server (2016-2022) databases
  • Experience with high-availability configurations (RAC, ASM, DataGuard, RMAN, AlwaysOn Clustering)
  • Proficiency in Linux/Unix environments and scripting (Shell, Python, PowerShell)
  • Experience with database performance tuning, automation, and backup/recovery strategies
  • Familiarity with storage and networking technologies related to database infrastructures (SAN, EMC)


Development & Automation:

  • Experience in database automation and API development
  • Proficiency in Python, PowerShell, and Shell scripting
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies and CI/CD practices


Additional Skills (Nice to Have):

  • Experience with cloud-based database management and Oracle Exadata
  • Knowledge of PostgreSQL, Cassandra, Sybase
  • Exposure to data replication tools like Golden Gate
  • Familiarity with job scheduling tools (UC4/Autosys)


Soft Skills & Competencies:

  • Proven experience working in large-scale, high-availability environments (preferably financial services)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to incident resolution
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Capacity to work both independently and within a collaborative team environment


Experience Required:

  • 8+ years of experience managing Oracle databases on Unix/Linux
  • Experience with MSSQL databases
  • Experience in automation and scripting
  • Strong expertise in query optimization and database performance tuning
  • Experience handling large-scale databases and critical production environments


Other :

  • Candidates must be located or willing to relocate to Montréal
  • Fluent in English, fluency in French is a plus
  • Hybrid position with 2-3 days on-site per week
  • Participating to on-call and off hours interventions, including week-ends and holidays
