Position Overview

At Calian, our Nuclear Analysts play a key technical role in the performance of various projects within the Calian Nuclear team. These Analysts/Engineers support various technical projects in the core areas of the group which includes: Nuclear Safety and Licensing, Environmental Protection, Decommissioning & Waste Management, Emergency Preparedness and Systems Engineering.

Calian Nuclear is looking for a Senior Automation & Robotics Engineer to support development of robotic tooling for Nuclear reactor applications.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform and support scientific and technical project work for Calian Nuclear clients.
  2. Support the development of high-quality technical documents outlining research approach, development and testing procedures.
  3. Act as a resource to the Director in support of developing business opportunities and proposals.
  4. Provide support to Project Managers as required, including reporting to clients, reviewing the work of project team members and subcontractors, and supervising project team members.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical members both within the R&D team and with project partners.
  6. Participate, as part of a project team, in conducting technical analyses.
  7. Cultivate and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and potential business partners.
Qualifications
  1. 5-10 years of experience as an Automation & Robotics Engineer in a similar capacity.
  2. A relevant degree in Engineering or Science.
  3. Strong working knowledge and proficiency in ROS/ROS2; MoveIt.
  4. Experience with professional software development work, including robotic systems architecture.
  5. Experience with Cobot manipulators and UGVs (experience with Universal Robotics UR series and Clearpath Robotics Husky technologies will be considered an asset).
  6. Strong working knowledge of Python and C++ programming languages.
  7. Capable of integrating components from multiple manufacturers into a single robotic system.
Additional Requirements
  1. The ability to travel to client sites in the GTA (General Toronto Area) as needed as well as visit other sites such as Bruce Power (Tiverton, ON) a few times per month.
  2. An understanding of how to interpret and effectively contribute to long-term generational projects.
  3. Prototyping / fabricating mechanical, electrical, and software components.
  4. Experience in 3D Printing will be considered an asset.
  5. Experience with CADD Modelling (particularly SolidWorks, will also be considered an asset).
