About the Role

We have a dynamic team who are highly motivated to provide exceptional support to our lawyers and clients. We are currently recruiting for a full time Junior Financial Analyst to join our team in the Edmonton office.

Reporting to the Sr. Accountant & Data Analyst, the primary focus of this role is to support month end activities, accounts payable and data analytics/reporting. This role would actively participate in the Finance and Accounting team's continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze actual cost data versus budget and report on trends and variances
  • Communicate and collaborate with departmental leaders to stay abreast of spending, budgeting, reports, and evaluation
  • Assist with calculation of overhead costing rates and their allocation across the practice groups
  • Analyze and interpret financial results for the practice groups
  • Participate in the forecasting and budgeting processes, as well, monitor variances between actual results and the budget on a periodic basis
  • Prepare monthly journal entries such as sales and cost accruals, deferred revenue adjustments to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial results
  • Help prepare audit working papers and respond to audit enquiries
  • Participate in the upgrades/version releases of respective reporting tools, as well as system amendments/enhancements required to facilitate new/modified reporting requirements. In connection with this effort, assist in user acceptance testing and after care post deployment
  • Support reporting tool development across the firm
  • Assist in identifying operational process improvements
  • Assist in integrating and streamlining the reports under the team's responsibility
  • Ensure delivery of all financial data/reporting in a timely manner from the team members
  • Ensure that the quality controls are defined and properly designed
  • Other finance related tasks as and when assigned

Qualifications

  • University degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration

Required Skills

  • Demonstrates sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
  • Possesses a strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
  • Demonstrates a high level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability
  • Can work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently with minimum supervision
  • Is able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Is self-motivated, results-oriented with a focus on delivering high quality work

Preferred Skills

  • Plans to pursue CPA or similar designation would be considered an asset
  • Passion for leveraging technology in system development and process optimization
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office productivity suite, especially Excel and Power BI
