Senior / Principal Electrical Engineer

We are seeking a Senior / Principal Electrical Engineer with deep utility distribution experience to join a growing consulting team delivering long-term distribution programs for a major regulated utility in Western Canada. This role is open at either the Senior or Principal level, depending on the candidate’s experience, technical depth, and leadership capability. Final title and compensation will be aligned accordingly.This role is focused on the engineering, reinforcement, expansion, repair, and replacement of electrical distribution systems and is ideal for a hands-on utility distribution specialist -- not a general electrical engineer.You will work closely with operations, maintenance, capital programs, and external stakeholders to deliver safe, reliable, and constructible distribution solutions across urban and regional networks.What You’ll DoProvide engineering support for distribution system reinforcement, expansion, and asset replacement programsLead investigations into complex and unusual distribution engineering problemsPerform distribution-level system analysis, including: load flow, fault current, voltage regulation, protection coordinationSupport Capital Projects and Programs, from concept through constructionAct as Owner’s Engineer, reviewing consultant designs for technical accuracy, constructability, and compliance with utility standardsDevelop and contribute to distribution engineering standards, design practices, and guidelinesMentor and guide junior engineers, designers, and technologistsEngage with internal and external stakeholders to balance safety, reliability, lifecycle cost, and delivery outcomesWhat We’re Looking ForDegree in Electrical EngineeringRegistered P.Eng. (EGBC) or eligible for immediate registration10+ years (Senior) / 17+ years (Principal) of experience in electric utility distribution engineeringDemonstrated experience with both overhead and underground distribution systems (up to ~35kV)Proven ability to work independently, exercising sound engineering judgmentExperience supporting live utility systems, operations, and capital programsStrong communication skills with the ability to explain technical solutions to varied audiencesLeadership mindset with interest in mentoring and long-term practice growthWhy This RoleThis is a high-impact position within a growing distribution practice. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping how distribution engineering is delivered, mentoring future leaders, and supporting long-term utility programs that matter.Compensation & BenefitsAt the time of posting, the estimated base salary range for this position is CAD $130,000 – $180,000, depending on skills, experience, and level (Senior vs. Principal track). This range does not include the additional components of the total compensation package, which includes a comprehensive extended health and dental plan, paid vacation, sick time, and statutory holidays.
