Duties & Responsibilities
  • Sort and categorize soiled linen and articles.
  • Weigh and document the results of laundry operations.
  • Wash and clean soiled articles using appropriate equipment and chemicals.
  • Dry and fold laundered articles to ensure they are clean and presentable.
  • Hang and press items as required to maintain a high level of quality.
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance on laundry equipment.
  • Deliver and distribute laundry to resident home areas.
  • Differentiate between 'dry clean' and water wash articles.
  • Update resident and linen lists to ensure accurate tracking.
  • Document missing and found items to maintain a high level of accountability.
  • Order laundry chemicals and supplies as needed.
  • Monitor and confirm daily linen quotas to ensure efficient operations.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and provide excellent customer service.
  • Label personal effects of residents to maintain confidentiality.
  • Clean and maintain laundry equipment and areas to ensure a safe and healthy environment.
  • Respond to priorities and emergencies in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Inform Supervisor of any issues or concerns.
Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • Possess a secondary school diploma and the ability to operate laundry equipment and prioritize tasks.
  • Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to work both in a team and independently.
  • Must have an understanding of the Residents' Bill of Rights and Compliance Standards as set out by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.
  • A general knowledge and understanding of workplace safety and basic computer skills are also required.

Preferred

  • Previous experience as a laundry worker.
Working/ Employment Conditions

Working Conditions

  • The incumbent must be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the position including lifting approximately 50 lbs., pushing, pulling, and moving heavy materials, equipment and boxes.

Employment Conditions

  • Current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening by the first day of employment.
  • Current two-step tuberculosis test (obtained within the past six (6) months) by the first day of employment.
