Steam Plant Operations Engineer

As a Steam Plant Operations Engineer with Teck Resources Limited, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our steam plant installations. This includes providing specifications for design and selection of equipment, layout, preventative maintenance strategies, and operating procedures.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring all steam plant installations are designed, operated, maintained, and inspected to meet Teck and government regulations.
  • Implementing and maintaining the Quality Control Manual for Teck's BPV Contractor License.
  • Providing technical expertise and current understanding of the steam distribution system to Trail Operations.
  • Ensuring project management and contractor management work related to all pressure vessels, pressure relief valves, boilers, etc.
  • Liaising with Technical Safety BC and Trail Operations on upgrades or changes to Boilers, Pressure Vessels, and Pressure Piping.
  • Overseeing the coordination of external partners and suppliers for applicable plant shutdowns and upgrade projects.
  • Contributing to cost control by providing input to budgets, monitoring and reporting on expenditures, and identifying opportunities to continually reduce costs and explain variances.
  • Ensuring the efficient operation of the various service facilities by developing and implementing strategies in conjunction with operating and maintenance personnel.
  • Counselling staff on manpower, union, safety, and industrial relations issues.
  • Coordinating the Power Engineer training requirements and Power Engineer certification management for Trail Operations.
  • Staying up-to-date with the latest developments, maintaining a comprehensive knowledge of the American Standard of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the National Board Inspection Code (NBIC), Boiler Pressure Vessels and Refrigeration Regulations, and any other applicable codes and standards.
