Job Overview

Making Waves Academy seeks a highly skilled Innovation Specialist to lead its makerspace program, fostering a collaborative learning environment where students can explore creative problem-solving, critical thinking, and technical skills through various projects and real-world applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach robotics, 3D printing, and digital fabrication courses, guiding students through the design and fabrication process from conceptualization to prototyping, building, and testing.
  • Develop project-based curriculum integrating STEM concepts, ensuring student safety while operating tools and machinery.
  • Design and manage classroom and workshop environments conducive to hands-on learning, adhering to all safety protocols and guidelines for the use of tools and equipment.
  • Foster a classroom culture of collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving, leading after-school programs and clubs.
  • Support teachers in incorporating makerspace projects, creating cross-disciplinary learning opportunities with other faculty and staff.

Tech Operations and Program Development

  • Document projects and processes, maintaining and organizing makerspace materials, tools (e.g., 3D printers, laser cutters) and equipment, ensuring everything is in safe working condition.
  • Track inventory and order materials, ensuring timely delivery and availability.
  • Design maker education curriculum, incorporating real-world engineering and design challenges into the curriculum to encourage critical thinking and innovation.
  • Create partnerships with industry experts, organizing maker fairs and exhibitions to showcase student projects and present individual or group projects for school events, competitions, and community outreach.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Design, Architecture, or related field, with experience in robotics and programming.
  • 3+ years teaching or makerspace experience, with expertise in project-based learning and hands-on, inquiry-driven instruction.
  • Strong safety and risk management skills, ability to maintain a safe and effective learning environment.
