Job Title: Staff Accountant

Baker Tilly is a leading association of Chartered Professional Accounting firms in Canada, and an independent member of Baker Tilly International. Our Owen Sound office is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our team.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Staff Accountant to assist our clients with financial advisory, accounting, assurance, tax, and business advisory services. The successful candidate will have a strong background in accounting and tax, with excellent analytical and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Preparing compilation engagements and corporate and personal income tax returns
  • Providing assistance to clients with bookkeeping tasks, including recording transactions, reconciling bank accounts, and preparing HST returns
  • Participating in the efficient preparation and completion of working papers, financial statements, and corporate tax returns for compilation engagements
  • Effective preparation and completion of tax assignments, including preparation of tax returns (T1, T2, HST), and ensuring queries are cleared and deadlines are met
  • Preparation of trust returns (T3)
Requirements:
  • College or university degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in public accounting or a similar finance role
  • Proven technical abilities in preparing compilation engagements, and corporate and personal income tax returns
  • Sound working knowledge of tax and accounting principles
  • Accounting, tax, and software knowledge, i.e., Tax Prep, CaseWare, Sage, and QuickBooks
  • Advanced working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Highly analytical and accurate, with attention to detail
  • Strong work ethic, and ability to thrive on challenges
  • Strong time-management abilities and self-motivation to work independently in a high-volume work environment
  • Demonstrates the ability to handle multiple priorities effectively and efficiently
  • Passion for client service
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to continually expand one's professional skill set, learn on the job, take on additional responsibilities as required, and respond to and thrive in a dynamic work environment
