**Job Description**

As a General Accountant at Make-A-Wish Canada, you will play a vital role in supporting our mission to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Our finance team is dedicated to ensuring the effective and efficient processing of payroll for our employees across Canada.

 

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and payroll management, with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. You will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial data, preparing journal entries, and submitting payroll-related reports to management.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Process and manage payroll using Dayforce, ensuring precision and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Administer the organization's RRSP program, including reviewing new enrolments and ensuring the accurate transfer of funds to the service provider.
  • Regularly reconcile group benefit invoice costs to payroll to ensure accuracy.
  • Serve as the primary resource for the organization regarding payroll matters.
  • Collaborate with the People and Culture team to ensure accurate and timely processing of new hires, terminations, and other employee status changes.
  • Contribute to policy development and implementation related to payroll and benefits.
  • Prepare journal entries related to payroll on a timely basis.
  • Prepare and submit payroll-related reports to management as needed.

 

Treasury Function

 

  • Manage banking relationships, including access and fee reviews.
  • Monitor cash flow and optimize cash management.
  • Prepare regular bank reconciliations.
  • Support the annual audit by compiling and generating the required financial information.

 

Requirements

 

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or a degree in accounting or business, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
  • Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation and proven expertise in payroll management.
  • 5 years' experience in a similar accounting position in a medium-sized organization.
  • Advanced Excel and technology skills.
  • Proficient user of finance software.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must demonstrate flexibility, a strong commitment to meeting deadlines, and an ability to prioritize.
  • Experience in effectively collaborating in cross-department teams is required.

 

Work Environment

 

  • Hybrid work environment (2 days in-office, 3 days remote per week) with occasional requirements to work outside of regular office hours.
