Job Summary:

The Respiratory Therapist 1 contributes to and ensures the delivery of respiratory therapy services through participation in the diagnosis, treatment, and clinical investigation of clients with respiratory disease and medically related disorders. These services are provided to inpatients, ambulatory/outpatient, and emergency room patients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Providing airway management duties, maintaining mechanical ventilation, and client transport duties
• Providing general respiratory therapeutic duties, evaluating client respiratory care plans, and performing various other tests and diagnostic procedures related to respiratory therapy
• Maintaining technical support for respiratory equipment, educating clients and staff on respiratory equipment and management of respiratory diseases, and drafting correspondence, reports, and maintaining professional records
• Accessing respiratory status to treat patients accordingly and making recommendations to physicians

Requirements:

• A baccalaureate degree with a designation in Respiratory Therapy or diploma in Respiratory Therapy, preferably with experience in an acute care setting
• Licensed or eligible for licensing with the College of Allied Health Professionals of Prince Edward Island
• Demonstrated skills in program planning and excellent communication and organizational skills
• A good previous work and attendance record
