At Aviva Canada, we are seeking a highly skilled Senior Commercial Lines Underwriter to join our team in Oakville, Ontario.

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced underwriter with a strong knowledge of property and casualty insurance to manage our Middle Market business. The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of experience in commercial insurance underwriting and possess a post-secondary education in a related field.

The successful candidate will be responsible for qualifying and underwriting deals, developing relationships with brokers and customers, and maintaining the quality and profitability of the portfolio. They will also provide insight on market research and analysis, develop business cases for pricing, coverage, and product improvements, and contribute to the introduction and communication of pricing, coverage, and product changes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Qualify and underwrite deals through understanding needs and risk characteristics of the customer
  • Develop and maintain relationships cross-functionally and with external stakeholders
  • Maintain the quality and profitability of the portfolio
  • Provide insight on market research and analysis
  • Contribute to the introduction and communication of pricing, coverage, and product changes
Requirements
  • At least 8 years' experience in commercial Insurance underwriting
  • Post-secondary education (Business or related discipline) or equivalent practical experience
  • CIP/FCIP preferred
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting, pricing, and product in key segments
  • Working knowledge of other functional areas (i.e. Claims, Risk Management, Accounting, etc.)
