The Science Technician I – Engineering Role

At Saint Mary's University, we are seeking a highly skilled Science Technician I to join our Engineering department in the Faculty of Science. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for maintaining lab equipment, assessing functionality, and carrying out minor repairs. You will also maintain student laboratory manuals, coordinate equipment and computer lending, and instruct students on safety and emergency procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain lab equipment and assess functionality
  • Maintain student laboratory manuals and collaborate with faculty
  • Coordinate equipment and computer lending for student use
  • Instruct students on safety and emergency procedures
  • Maintain safety-related records
  • Carry out equipment and material acquisition under faculty supervision

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (B.Eng.) or related field
  • Minimum 2 years related experience in an engineering laboratory environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Programming experience and computer proficiency with CAD modelling
  • Experience with safety procedures and Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations
