Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our team at the University of Waterloo. The successful candidate will provide specialized expertise for the coordination and execution of research projects and will perform and oversee field and laboratory research.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and execute research projects, including field and laboratory research, data analysis, and report writing.
  • Manage and maintain field and laboratory facilities, including equipment and supplies.
  • Supervise and train undergraduate and graduate students, as well as other researchers, on field and laboratory techniques and safety protocols.
  • Develop and implement operating protocols for field and laboratory instruments and experimental equipment.
  • Provide methodological and technical support for lab members during the planning, organization, and execution of research projects.
  • Coordinate field sampling activities, including contacting project partners and coordinating field site access and equipment installation.
  • Present research results at conferences and meetings, and participate in the preparation of journal manuscripts and conference presentations.
Qualifications
  • MSc degree in Environmental Science, Earth Science, Biology, or Chemistry.
  • Practical knowledge of a wide range of analytical techniques, including sample collection, handling, and preparation.
  • 4+ years of experience performing field and laboratory research, including operation of state-of-the-art analytical technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience co-authoring journal articles for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience working with a diverse group of colleagues of varying backgrounds and experience levels.
  • Experience using the full MS Office suite, including data processing and management.
