About Our Team

We are a dynamic team of healthcare professionals dedicated to providing exceptional care to childbearing patients and their families in the perinatal clinical unit. Our team is committed to delivering person-centered care, promoting empathy, and advocating for patients' rights to privacy, dignity, and access to information.

Responsibilities
  • We conduct comprehensive nursing assessments of patients and unborn babies, identifying risk factors and determining appropriate nursing interventions.
  • We collaborate with patients, families/support persons, physicians, and members of the inter-professional care team to develop, implement, and modify optimal patient and unborn baby care plans.
  • We participate in the care and discharge planning process, ensuring comprehensive care planning and delivery.
  • We coordinate nursing care for patients, making referrals to the inter-professional care team as needed.
  • We provide education and support to patients and families/support persons on topics essential to their health care and well-being.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing and current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • One year's recent, related clinical perinatal nursing experience in the designated clinical area and completion of post-graduate basic course work and/or certification in perinatal nursing applicable to the designated clinical area.
  • Able to recognize acuity changes, use factual information to support nursing decisions, and communicate effectively with patients, families/support persons, and healthcare teams.
  • Able to promote person-centered care, teach and instruct patients, and prioritize work in a continuously changing environment.
