About This Opportunity

As a key member of our estimating department, you will work closely with our Chief Estimator to deliver high-quality estimates for a wide range of mechanical projects in the industrial, commercial, government, and institutional markets.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Prepare detailed estimates of probable costs for construction projects, including materials, labor, subcontractors, and equipment.
  2. Advise on tendering procedures, examine and analyze tenders, recommend tender awards, and conduct negotiations.
  3. Establish and maintain tendering processes, set up cost monitoring and reporting systems, and procedures.
  4. Coordinate price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers, and architects regarding tenders.
  5. Participate in site reviews, tender reviews, tender hand-offs, project closings, and operational/sector meetings with the Division Manager, Chief Estimator, Project Manager, and Purchasing as required.
  6. Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
  7. Liaise, consult, and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors, and prepare economic feasibility studies on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
  8. Maintain an industry presence to ensure continuity of work now and in the future.
  9. Stay up-to-date with new technology within the mechanical contracting industry to ensure that all estimates include the most up-to-date construction methods and procedures.
  10. Conduct material and equipment purchasing for secured jobs.
  11. Travel to various sites or clients to undertake the above.

Education and Experience

We prefer candidates with a graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Technology, or a qualified tradesperson in the mechanical field with several years of experience and previous estimating experience.

A minimum of 10-15 years of experience working as a Mechanical Estimator on ICI projects of a $5M value or higher is required.

Skills and Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of contract management, construction scheduling, planning, and execution.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and trade fluency (plumbing, hydronic, HVAC).
  • Organization and time management skills, with self-driven leadership abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS applications (Word, Excel, and Projects), Autobid Mechanical (QuickPen), and Accubid Change Order Pro.
