About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Underwriter to join our Construction and Energy team at XL CATLIN. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for underwriting complex construction and energy risks, providing expert advice to clients and brokers, and developing innovative solutions to meet their needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwriting and Risk Assessment
    • Develop and implement underwriting strategies to manage construction and energy risks
    • Conduct thorough risk assessments and provide expert advice to clients and brokers
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and implement risk management solutions
  • Client and Broker Relationships
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and brokers to understand their needs and provide tailored solutions
    • Communicate complex underwriting decisions and risk assessments to clients and brokers
  • Business Development
    • Identify new business opportunities and develop strategies to grow our construction and energy portfolio
    • Collaborate with internal teams to develop and implement business development plans
  • Leadership and Development
    • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior underwriters and support their professional development
    • Contribute to the development of underwriting policies and procedures
Requirements
  • Experience
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in construction and energy underwriting
    • Proven track record of managing complex risks and developing innovative solutions
  • Skills
    • Excellent underwriting and risk assessment skills
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Education
    • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g. business, engineering, risk management)
    • Professional designations (e.g. FCIP, CRIS) an asset
