About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Technical Architect to join our System Design team at Telesat. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in designing and developing the Telesat Lightspeed constellation system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define the Lightspeed system architecture, system requirements, and network element specifications, ensuring alignment with project goals and customer needs.
  • Contribute to the design and development of key aspects such as end-to-end communication, resource allocation mechanisms, network entry mechanism, network element management systems, service availability, EPFD compliance and coordination mechanisms, satellite payload power consumption management, resource utilization efficiency, spectrum management, user terminal type integration, and concepts of operation.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior engineers in the System Design team.
  • Develop and maintain Lightspeed system architecture documentation, including subsystems definition, interfaces, and data flows, to ensure optimal performance and reliability of the system.
  • Collaborate with the System Integration and Test team to plan the integration and testing of all elements of the Lightspeed constellation system.
  • Identify and manage technical risks related to the system design and develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans as needed.
  • Collaborate with external partners, vendors, and stakeholders as required to ensure project success.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in satellite system architecture and design, with a minimum of 15 years in similar roles.
  • Strong knowledge of satellite communication protocols, orbital mechanics, and space systems.
  • Experience with software defined satellite communication payloads.
  • Familiarity with regulatory bodies and space industry standards.
