Job Summary:

The City of Courtenay is seeking a skilled Operations Maintenance Technologist to join our team. As a key member of our Operational Services Department, you will provide technical support and coordinate technical work on developing, coordinating, implementing, and optimizing our programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support and coordinate technical work on developing, coordinating, implementing, and optimizing our programs.
  • Participate in the day-to-day planning of preventative maintenance programs and effectively implement industry best practices.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure seamless operations and maintenance.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with contractors and vendors to ensure timely and cost-effective services.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements:
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or related field.
  • Certified membership in the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia.
  • Valid British Columbia Class 5 Drivers License.
  • Sound experience in a municipal operations environment, emphasizing contract coordination, planned preventative maintenance, and effective system operations.
  • GIS technology background (an asset).
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and report-writing skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office, ArcGIS, and databases.
  • Ability to work well as a member of a team and independently.
  • Ability to oversee the work of others.
  • Ability to interpret and apply City bylaws, policies, procedures, engineering design standards, and specifications.

Additional Requirements:
  • First Aid Emergency Level - Industry and CPR Level A Certification.
  • Traffic Control training.
  • WHMIS Certification.
  • Other job-related safety training.
  • Certification from the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA).
  • Public Works Association membership.

Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • May be required to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • May be required to travel to various locations within the City.

Salary:
The current hourly wage rate is $40.33 based on a 35-hour week.
