About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Risk Consultant to join our Risk Engineering team at Co-operators. As a Senior Risk Consultant, you will play a key role in identifying and evaluating risks associated with commercial and farm properties, and providing expert advice to our underwriting partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough risk assessments on commercial and farm properties to identify potential risks and exposures.
  • Develop and implement effective risk mitigation strategies to minimize losses and improve overall risk management.
  • Collaborate with underwriting partners to provide expert advice and guidance on risk-related matters.
  • Conduct site surveys to identify and evaluate loss exposure, hazards, and controls for risks.
  • Provide consultative risk improvement services and training to advisors and underwriters.
  • Ensure assessments are completed in a cost-effective, timely, and productive manner in accordance with specified service standards.
  • Establish positive relationships with clients and maintain strong relationships with internal staff and external service providers.

Requirements

  • A degree or diploma in Engineering, Agriculture, or a related field of equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of NFPA standards and relevant fire and building codes is required.
  • A minimum of 7 years' experience in loss control/risk engineering focusing on commercial and farm risk.
  • In progress or completion of insurance-related loss prevention courses (Building Construction, Basic Hazards, special hazards and processes, liability loss prevention).
  • Specialized skills in trades or fire protection and prevention fields are considered assets.
  • CIP and/or CRM designation is an asset.
  • Infrared Thermography Level 1 and Level 2 is an asset.

What You Need to Know

  • You are required to have your own vehicle, valid driver's license, and insurance with opportunity to obtain a company vehicle. This role will require day-to-day travel.
  • Extended work hours may be required.
  • Potential exposure to conditions that require health and safety protection, such as chemicals, noise, dust, and debris.
  • This role involves direct contact with clients and/or service providers in their environment.
  • You will work on a virtual team or remotely. A high degree of autonomy is required.
