About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Database Architect to join our Systems Engineering team. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for designing and implementing innovative database solutions that meet the evolving needs of our business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement scalable and reliable database infrastructure to support our growing business needs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define database roadmaps and ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Investigate and resolve complex database performance issues to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Develop and maintain database knowledge sharing initiatives to educate and upskill our engineering teams.
  • Work closely with development teams to optimize database usage and improve application performance.
  • Scope, define, and implement automation and processes to ensure database reliability and security.
Requirements
  • Hands-on technical expertise with building and configuring MySQL database servers, with a strong understanding of cloud-based environments.
  • Experience investigating and solving complex performance problems with MySQL databases.
  • Experience using ProxySQL and the Percona toolkit.
  • Ability to work with and develop the MySQL knowledge of the rest of the SRE team.
  • A portfolio of successful projects, including lessons learned from failed projects.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using migration tools, pt-online-schema-change or gh-ost.
  • Experience managing hosts with Puppet.
  • Experience working with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience developing with Ruby or GoLang.
  • Experience managing AWS resources with CloudFormation or Terraform.
  • Experience scripting with BASH.
