Job Title: Manager, Criminal Registry and Court Operations

Job Summary:

The Manager, Criminal Registry and Court Operations is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the Nunavut Court of Justice's Court Criminal Registry, all criminal court sittings, and providing courtroom support services to the judges of the NCJ.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for strategic initiatives affecting court services delivery of all Criminal court operations
  • Efficiently and proactively manage stakeholder relationships in achieving program results
  • Have spending authority on a delegated budget and be responsible for hiring, supervising, training, and evaluating criminal section employees within the operation
  • Assist with taxations as assigned by the Clerk of the Court
  • Hold statutory appointments as Deputy Registrar, Court of Appeal, Deputy Clerk of the Nunavut Court of Justice, Deputy Clerk of the Youth Court, and Administrative Justice of the Peace

Requirements:

  • Diploma in business administration or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Six (6) years' experience in court administration and one (1) year of progressively responsible management/supervisor experience, preferably in a criminal registry of a Superior court in Canada
  • Significant experience with and a sound working knowledge of Criminal Court practices and procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Working knowledge of collective bargaining agreements, the Financial Administration Act, and other legislation relating to human resource management

Assets:

  • Fluency in more than one of Nunavut's official languages
  • Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut, and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment

Eligibility:

  • Nunavut Inuit who self-identify as being enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement in accordance with the Priority Hiring Policy
  • Government of Nunavut employees serving a probationary period must obtain and provide written authorization from the deputy head of their employing department
