Position Title: Manager of Infrastructure Services
Position Summary: The Manager of Infrastructure Services collaborates with the leadership team of Information Technology (IT) Services to define and accomplish the objectives of the IT Services department, while also supporting the strategic goals set forth by Red Deer Polytechnic.
Key to this role is the ability to manage relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, alongside project management skills, to ensure the smooth execution of daily operations, plans, and projects as outlined by the Education and Information Technology Committee.
The incumbent will provide leadership and oversight to the Infrastructure team, guiding staff activities to ensure a seamless and continuous operation for the Institution, while promptly addressing and resolving any issues that arise.
This position requires regular collaboration with the Architecture and Security, Client Services, and Applications teams to guarantee that the services provided meet the highest quality standards and comply with RDP policies, as well as IT vision and procedures.
Position Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning for Infrastructure and Operations:
- Contributes to the development and monitoring of operating and capital budgets, working alongside the Director and CIO to manage the budget process.
- Participates in determining the strategic direction of the IT Services Division in collaboration with other IT Services managers, supporting the Director and CIO.
- Engages in committees and task forces aimed at enhancing service quality for students, faculty, and staff, while identifying opportunities to expand departmental initiatives.
- Recommends, develops, and implements departmental policies and procedures.
- Maintains budgets and seeks cost-saving measures for Infrastructure-related services.
Service Operations Management:
- Oversees and manages staff within the Infrastructure and Operations Section, ensuring optimal functionality and compliance with established service level agreements (SLAs).
- Coordinates service deliverables and manages client expectations, ensuring adherence to established procedures for prompt and quality service.
- Manages the analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation of new service initiatives.
- Coordinates capacity planning and acquisition of servers, networks, and communication devices.
- Works with the Architecture & Security team to maintain security procedures for the network and corporate data, while managing disaster recovery programs.
Project Management:
- Prepares business cases for IT Services-driven projects.
- Coordinates research and guidance for projects or initiatives within the section.
- Ensures projects adhere to defined methodologies, including scope control, stakeholder engagement, and user acceptance testing.
- Coaches IT staff in project management methodologies.
Qualifications:
- Two-year Diploma in Information and/or Computer Technology, with preference for a Four-year degree in Information Technology or Computer Science.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in Information Technology.
- Demonstrated experience in project management, with a certificate in Project Management preferred.
- Strong technical background in cloud infrastructure, networking, and telecommunications.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
