Mental Health Liaison Nurse Job Description

As a Mental Health Liaison Nurse, you will play a vital role in ensuring that individuals with mental health concerns receive the support and guidance they need to navigate the healthcare system.

Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Mental Health Liaison Nurse to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, consulting, and triaging complex mental health presentations in the Emergency Department. This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Assess and consult on mental health presentations in the Emergency Department.
  2. Collaborate with the Emergency Department healthcare team to develop treatment plans and implement interventions.
  3. Conduct follow-up calls to patients to assess the effectiveness of interventions and provide ongoing support.
  4. Liaise with community resources and other healthcare services to ensure seamless transitions of care.
  5. Support and educate patients and families regarding mental health concerns, substance use, and co-occurring disorders.
  6. Participate in the development of mental health policies and guidelines for the Emergency Department.
  7. Demonstrate expertise in crisis intervention, psychosocial assessment, and other treatment modalities.


Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you will require:
  • A degree in Psychiatric Nursing or related field.
  • Active practicing licensure with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba.
  • A minimum of three years' experience in mental health nursing, preferably in an emergency department setting.
  • Current certification in ASIST, NVCI, and Co-Occurring Disorder training.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft programs and Internet applications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
