About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Underwriter to join our Construction and Energy team at AXA XL. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and structuring tailored solutions for our clients, utilizing your in-depth underwriting expertise in Construction and Energy risks.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and Structure Solutions: Create customized solutions for clients, considering underwriting guidelines and policies to win new business and retain existing customers.
  2. Review and Analyze Submissions: Evaluate submissions, terms and conditions, statement of values, loss history, and catastrophic modeling to determine the degree of risk for each account.
  3. Collaborate with Internal Teams: Work closely with various business divisions, including Actuarial, Claims, Reinsurance, Accounting, Marketing, Risk Engineering, and Regulatory, to support our businesses.
  4. Determine Risk and Calculate Premiums: Determine quote or declination of risk and calculate rates and premium charges using approved rating models.
  5. Develop Policy Wording: Create and modify policy wording in accordance with delegated underwriting authority when standard forms are not suitable.
  6. Cross-Sell Afforded Products: Actively promote and sell additional products and services to clients.
  7. Support Service Standards: Ensure high-quality delivery of Construction and Energy products and services.
  8. Market to Producers: Engage with producers to secure new and renewal business and identify opportunities for cross-selling within your unit and across all lines of business in Canada.
  9. Develop Skills and Knowledge: Support the development of skills, knowledge, and competencies of less experienced colleagues.
  10. Work Effectively with Team Members: Collaborate with other team members to achieve common goals.
  11. Leadership and Special Projects: Participate in leadership and special projects as assigned by management.
Requirements
  1. Extensive Underwriting Experience: Possess extensive experience in Construction Property (Builders Risk) and Operational Energy (Renewables, Power, etc.) Property Underwriting.
  2. Strong Communication Skills: Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal teams and external brokers.
  3. Organizational and Time-Management Skills: Possess excellent organizational, time-management, and multi-tasking skills.
  4. Microsoft Office Suite: Have excellent comprehension and work experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  5. Bilingual Skills: Bilingual (English/French) skills are an asset.
  6. Knowledge of Primary Casualty: Possess knowledge of Primary Casualty, including Wrap-Ups and Excess and Umbrella liability.
  7. Education and Designations: Hold a Bachelor's Degree, with advanced education and/or professional designations, including but not limited to FCIP, CRIS, preferred but not required.
  8. Travel Requirements: Willingness to travel (approximately 25% travel as necessary) within Canada and the USA.
