About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Intermediate Software Developer, Data to join our team at Hootsuite Inc. This is a fantastic opportunity for a talented individual to design, build, test, and ship high-quality software that delivers value to our customers.

The successful candidate will work on a small and agile team that continuously incorporates feedback to refine and improve the products and features they deliver. The team will own the entire delivery lifecycle from beta releases to production-ready, scalable products suitable for new and existing customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team, including designers, product managers, architects, and other developers, to deliver compelling products and services to our customers.
  • Design, write, test, and deploy high-quality, scalable code.
  • Implement our technical roadmap as we scale our services and build new products.
  • Maintain standards of security, reliability, performance, and quality.
  • Work out loud by sharing experiences and expertise, helping to improve and enhance processes.
  • Take ownership of work and work autonomously when necessary.
  • Participate in code reviews and apply software development best practices.
  • Work with distributed compute engines, such as Spark, Athena/Presto, and Flink, as well as Iceberg tables and partitioning strategies.
Requirements
  • At least 3 years of experience in developing and maintaining software or an equivalent level of education or work experience, with a track record of substantial contributions to software projects with high business impact.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python, Go, Scala, or Java, and a desire to learn other languages.
  • Experience in software design, including analyzing and designing features, driving discussions, and proposing technical solutions.
  • Experience working on medium-to-large-sized projects with an impact on business, with an understanding of SaaS software development practices.
  • Ability to apply best practices to ensure high-quality code, including automated tests and code reviews.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with others to deliver results.
  • Self-motivation and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
  • Problem-solving skills, with the ability to approach complex problems in a logical and organized manner.
  • Resilience and adaptability, with the ability to cope with change and ambiguity.
