About the Role:

The Associate Director of Credit Risk will support the credit risk and underwriting functions, reporting to the Director. The ideal candidate should possess expertise in complex deal structuring, annual review oversight, financial auditing, and investor relations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Supervision: Lead a team of 4-6 analyst underwriters, providing performance feedback, mentoring, and skill development.
  • Risk Management Strategy: Contribute to the organization's strategic direction by developing and implementing effective Risk Management strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Commitment Reviews: Review commitment letters, credit presentations, and funding checklists for accuracy and compliance with CMHC requirements.
  • Credit Committee Participation: Participate in credit committee discussions to ensure effective risk identification and mitigation.
  • Policies and Procedures: Ensure that company policies and procedures align with CMHC requirements and updates, including changes to the Lender's Handbook.
  • Credit Feedback: Provide feedback to Origination and Analyst teams on evolving credit requirements and common themes.
  • Due Diligence: Conduct thorough due diligence on complex loan applications, analyzing borrower profiles, financial data, and asset value.
  • Client Interactions: Engage with clients, perform site visits, and support comprehensive underwriting and funding processes.
  • Error Rate Management: Manage a high volume of deal flow with minimal errors.
  • Market Awareness: Stay informed about market trends and developments within commercial mortgages.
  • Industry Networking: Network within the industry through meetings, events, and involvement in relevant organizations.

Qualifications:

  • Education: University Degree in Business Administration or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: 4+ years of experience in mortgages, specifically in commercial underwriting.
  • CMHC Experience: CMHC-insured lending experience preferred.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail is essential.
  • Microsoft Office Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Autonomy: Capable of working autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication abilities in English.
  • Policies and Processes Understanding: Understanding of internal investors' and CMHC processes and policies ensures alignment.
  • Leadership Skills: Self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic and leadership skills.
  • Results-Oriented: Demonstrated success in achieving results through innovation and critical thinking.
