Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Pharmacy Assistant to join our team at Westhill Pharmasave in Nanaimo. As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting our pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in delivering high-quality pharmaceutical services to our patients. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Providing exceptional customer service and responding to customer inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Assisting with prescription processing, including data entry, labeling, and packaging under the supervision of a pharmacist or pharmacy technician.
  • Counting, measuring, and packaging prescription medications accurately and safely, following established protocols and procedures.
  • Receiving, unpacking, and stocking incoming shipments of medications and supplies, monitoring inventory levels, and conducting stock rotations as needed.
  • Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the pharmacy area, including medication shelves, dispensing counters, and workstations.
  • Performing clerical tasks such as filing, faxing, and scanning documents, and assisting with processing insurance claims and coordinating prescription transfers as required.
  • Adhering to all applicable laws, regulations, and pharmacy policies, including privacy and confidentiality requirements.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a pharmacy assistant program or relevant healthcare certification is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Prior experience in a retail or healthcare setting is advantageous but not required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in performing tasks such as medication counting and labeling.
  • Effective organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and pharmacy software systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with pharmacy staff and contribute to a positive team environment.

Working Conditions

  • This is a full-time position, with standard work hours typically ranging from 32-40 hours per week.
  • The position may require standing for extended periods and occasional lifting/moving of moderate-weight boxes or containers.
  • Work shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on the operational hours of the pharmacy.
