Director of Risk, Compliance and Information Technology

The Director of Risk, Compliance and Information Technology is a key leadership position at YWCA Metro Vancouver, responsible for ensuring the organization's private, confidential, and sensitive information is secure and integrated across multiple sites. This role provides strategic leadership for the IT and Health and Safety teams, overseeing data and information security, storage, and management, as well as compliance with licensing and regulatory bodies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement enterprise risk management strategies, including risk mitigation and reporting.
  • Provide leadership for organizational health and safety, business continuity, and disaster response planning.
  • Oversee tools and processes for managing operational and financial risk, promoting a culture of risk awareness and reduction.
  • Recommend, develop, and maintain organizational privacy and information management policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Stay up-to-date with evolving compliance demands, risk exposures, and industry changes, ensuring YWCA Metro Vancouver responds accordingly.
  • Develop and facilitate training and activities to foster employee awareness about compliance and privacy.
  • Oversee the organization's response to privacy breaches and manage privacy complaints and requests for access to personal information.
  • Provide strategic oversight for the IT department, ensuring optimal performance and alignment with the organizational strategic plan.
  • Engage with employees to understand business systems and identify opportunities to streamline processes through technology.
  • Lead business process analysis, prioritization, and standardization, including data collection and reporting.
  • Oversee data and information security, storage, and management, including policy for cloud-based systems and sensitive client and membership data.
  • Ensure the integration and security of data and information across the organization.
  • Develop and oversee policies related to compliance, technology, and risk, and develop response plans for data loss or breach.
  • Develop and oversee policies, principles, and procedures for software procurement.
Requirements:
  • Completion of a degree in business administration, technology, law, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in operational management, preferably in a charity or non-profit environment.
  • 7+ years in policy, IT strategy, privacy, and security, or standards and compliance roles.
  • Proactive, strategic, and visionary leadership skills, with a proven track record of guiding IT professionals and engaging with stakeholders.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, with knowledge of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and the ability to identify biases in systems and processes.
  • Hands-on experience selecting, implementing, and evaluating software, integrating software systems, and connecting software and paper-based systems.
  • Knowledge of enterprise risk management frameworks.
  • Experience reviewing and developing contract language and partnership agreements.
  • Experience with policy creation, development, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Excellent technical, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Values-driven and service-oriented approach.
  • Comfortable in a collaborative team environment.
  • A valid clear criminal record check, including working with vulnerable populations, is required.
