We are seeking a skilled Winter Equipment Operator to join our team at the Government of Nova Scotia. As a Winter Equipment Operator, you will be responsible for operating snow removal equipment such as snowplows, graders, and loaders to ensure safe and efficient snow removal operations.
Key Responsibilities- Operate snow removal equipment such as snowplows, graders, and loaders to clear snow and ice from roads and highways
- Perform general maintenance of equipment, including pre-and-post trip inspections and daily logs
- Work in a team environment to ensure safe and efficient snow removal operations
- Perform other work as required, such as maintaining signs, road surface repairs, and traffic control
- Two years of experience or an acceptable equivalency of education, training, and relevant experience
- Minimum of Class III license with air brake endorsement
- Reading and writing skills to understand department documentation and complete daily logs, inspection reports, etc.
- Professional driving course from a recognized truck driving training facility
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems and mechanical skills
- Training completed at any accredited heavy/commercial equipment training institute
- Previous experience driving a manual transmission, operating trucks with salt and plow equipment, and/or knowledge of salt spreading systems
