About the Position

The Senior Accountant is a key member of the accounting team, responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of transactional day-to-day accounting transactions. This role requires a strong understanding of financial systems and procedures, as well as excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain the general ledger for multiple entities by inputting daily financial transactions.
  • Responsible for full cycle accounting, including month-end close procedures.
  • Post daily deposits and reconcile to sales closings.
  • Resolve financial problems, investigate issues, and resolve accounting transactions in accordance with company policies.
  • Variance analysis of financial results against budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal and Provincial regulatory reporting requirements and tax filings, including GST and PST.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual balance sheet account reconciliations, including bank reconciliations and intercompany.
  • Prepare the month-end financial package with supporting documentation.
  • Assist with the preparation of quarterly financial information, including consolidations.
  • Produce year-end working paper files and assist with preparation for independent accountant review.
  • Assist in maintaining policy and procedure documentation for accounting transactions.
  • Develop and maintain project-specific reporting and analysis for internal clients.
  • Maintain an accurate trail and support for all financial and accounting transactions.
  • Understand and maintain adequate and effective internal controls under the direction of the controller.
  • Examine, reconcile, and adjust job costing to ensure accurate job costs.
Qualifications
  • Completed bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related academic field of study comparable to Canadian academic standards.
  • Seven (7) or more years of reliable and sustained experience and knowledge in all aspects of Corporate Accounting.
  • Experience in Residential Rentals, Construction, Land Development, and/or Job Costing is desired.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office, specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Membership of the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada or Canadian Securities Institute is desired.
  • Knowledge of accounting systems, budgets, and internal controls.
  • Ability to use enterprise-level financial record-keeping software systems such as Sage Timberline, D365 Business Central, Yardi, and Caseware.
  • Criminal Records Check to the company's satisfaction is required.
  • Manual dexterity is required to work with computers and peripherals.
  • Work is performed at the work site. Remote or Hybrid work is not available.
  • Accuracy is crucial to the profitability of the organization. Must possess strong and accurate data entry skills.
