About CPP Investments

CPP Investments is a global investment management organization that invests the funds of the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) to ensure long-term sustainability. With assets under management valued in excess of $500 billion, we are one of the most respected and fastest-growing institutional investors in the world.

Our team is responsible for the ongoing day-to-day evaluation, accounting, and monitoring of the Private Investments portfolio, primarily focusing on Real Assets and Private Equity investments. The role involves transaction management, processing investment funding's and distributions, settlements, reporting, reconciling, and resolving accounting entries, and regular interactions with investment partners and external advisors.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Input trade tickets and accounting entries with accuracy, ensuring figures agree with transacted amounts, completeness of supporting documentation, and appropriate authorizations are in place to facilitate investment closings.
  2. Assist in processing complex transactions and understand implications on accounting, reporting, and performance.
  3. Assist in the completion and accuracy of various reports and reconciliations relating to portfolio holdings and P&L.
  4. Identify issues and assist in determining corrective action, promptly escalating irregular activities or issues.
  5. Assist in the quarterly valuation review and ensure valuation adjustments are accurately recorded.
  6. Ensure process documentation is kept up to date.
  7. Maintain an ongoing effective working relationship with internal investment staff and external asset managers to ensure issues are discussed and resolved, financial controls and reporting requirements are met.
  8. Monitor the accounting policies of each of the portfolio investments and ensure accounting records of CPP Investments are maintained both accurately and timely.
  9. Ensure all agreements and documentation are complete and up to date.
  10. Ensure ongoing compliance with reporting requirements and resolve discrepancies when exceptions occur.
  11. Continually strive for operational excellence, seeking ways to streamline processes and create operational efficiencies.
  12. Prioritize workload in a timely fashion to meet deadlines.
  13. Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Undergraduate degree in Finance, Commerce, Economics, or other related discipline and interested in pursuing a professional designation (CFA or CPA).
  2. 1 to 2 years of relevant work experience.
  3. Strong analytical, financial, and management accounting skills will be necessary to perform this role.
  4. Advanced Excel skills and comfortable learning new systems.
  5. Team player who enjoys working in a high-performing culture and is open to evolving and changing priorities.
  6. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  7. Strong written and verbal communication skills with a high degree of professionalism.
  8. Solid prioritization and organization skills with exceptional attention to detail.
