Job Title: Senior Climate Change Engineer

Join the Government of Alberta in a critical role that requires expertise in climate change regulation and compliance.

About the Role

The Senior Climate Change Engineer will lead the development and implementation of verification and internal assurance processes under the Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction Regulation (TIER). This includes internal compliance review processes using coding and automation tools.

The selected candidate will also be responsible for leading the update, development, and implementation of quantification methodologies and other standards under TIER.

Additionally, the Senior Climate Change Engineer will provide senior technical support and mentorship to team members regarding regulated facilities under TIER.

The candidate must have an extensive understanding of TIER, climate policies, greenhouse gas emissions, and regulatory assurance systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of verification and internal assurance processes under TIER
  • Lead the update, development, and implementation of quantification methodologies and other standards under TIER
  • Provide senior technical support and mentorship to team members regarding regulated facilities under TIER
  • Provide policy analysis and support related to Alberta's industrial carbon pricing system
Requirements

The selected candidate will require:

  • University graduate with a bachelor's degree in engineering (preferably chemical, mechanical, environmental)
  • Minimum of 10 years of related technical experience
  • Experience with TIER and/or other industrial carbon pricing systems
  • Technical understanding of Alberta industrial sectors as regulated under TIER
  • Organizational and management skills to manage multiple projects
  • Experience leading or mentoring engineering or technical staff
Preferred Qualifications

Preferable engineering disciplines include chemical, mechanical, and environmental. A master's or PhD in engineering is also desirable.

Experience with Python and data analysis tools such as Pandas and Jupyter Notebooks is an asset.
