Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Health and Safety Specialist to join our team at Conestoga Meats. As a key member of our health and safety team, you will be responsible for providing support in all areas of health, safety, and wellness to drive continuous improvement across all departments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Health and Safety Support: Provide legislative reviews, ergonomic assessments, risk assessments, hazard assessments, job hazard analysis, physical demands descriptions, visual job instructions, discomfort reporting, and shout out safety program.
  • Project Management: Act as a subject matter expert on department-initiated projects, lead HSW projects, research and develop justifications for projects, complete and submit capital expenditures, utilize change management tools, analyze project performance, and ensure budgetary objectives are met.
  • Site Expansion: Attend meetings and workshops, provide ergonomic, process design, security, and material flow advice, ensure legislative requirements are addressed, participate in factory acceptance testing, and lead hazard and risk assessments.
  • Wellness Program: Lead the wellness program, review occupational and non-occupational statistics, develop and implement wellness initiatives, and complete post-event reviews.
  • Site Security: Contact for site security program, schedule repairs, installations, and new initiatives, maintain program policies, records, and reporting, and provide recommendations for improvements.
  • Early and Safe Return to Work Case Management Program: Review accident investigation reports, follow up with supervisors and team members, verify corrective actions, communicate with third-party disability management firm, monitor and meet with modified workers, update HSW manager on WSIB claims, schedule and attend WSIB return to work meetings, analyze WSIB injury statistics, and provide recommendations to mitigate future injuries.
Requirements
  • A degree or diploma in a related field and a post-secondary certificate in occupational health and safety.
  • 3-5 years of experience as a health and safety specialist in the food or manufacturing industry.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations, CSA, Human Rights, and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act.
  • 2-3 years of experience with WSIB case management, incident investigation, workplace inspection, ergonomics, and risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of workplace wellness and security programs and initiatives.
  • Complete proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other common applications.
  • Decisive, team player, and able to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to deal with tight deadlines effectively and efficiently, and day-to-day health and safety issues and concerns as they arise.
  • Strong organizational skills and project management skills.
  • Strong persuasive written and verbal communication skills.
