RAD Support Worker Position

At AVI Health & Community Services Society, we are committed to providing innovative and effective harm reduction services to individuals affected by substance use. As a RAD Support Worker, you will play a critical role in supporting the delivery of our flexible, participant-led safer supply program.
Job SummaryThe RAD Support Worker will work under the supervision of the Program Manager or designate to build relationships with program participants, provide peer support, and assist with assessments and intakes for the program. They will also be responsible for connecting regularly with program participants, offering referrals to other health and social services, and distributing safer drug use supplies and naloxone kits.
Duties and Responsibilities- Collaborate with the RAD team to identify potential program participants and provide information regarding access to pharmaceutical alternatives to street drugs.
- Connect regularly with program participants to offer peer support through active listening skills and a non-judgmental attitude, as well as referrals to other health and social services.
- Assist with post-dose monitoring for RAD program participants, assess for overdose symptoms, and respond with rescue breathing and naloxone when necessary.
- Liaise between participants, systems navigators, nurses, and physicians to support participants to be heard and assist with keeping communication open and accessible.
To succeed in this role, you will need to possess a strong understanding of harm reduction principles and practices, as well as experience working within harm reduction settings. You must also have lived/living experience with drug use and related health and social barriers, as well as first aid training and experience responding to critical incidents and overdose, including administration of naloxone.
You should be able to communicate clearly and with respect, both verbally and in writing, and approach conversations with others and build respectful rapport. Additionally, you must be able to observe changes in health and well-being in program participants and work in a complex and dynamic work environment while keeping a 'cool head.'
