About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join our team at Burgundy Diamond Mines. As the Open Pit Geotechnical Engineer, you will play a critical role in supporting mine operations, risk mitigation strategies, and ensuring safe and efficient open pit mining practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct slope monitoring systems and geotechnical data collection management to ensure safe open pit mining operations.
  • Maintain and evaluate Ground Probe Radar data, procedures, and work instructions to optimize geotechnical performance.
  • Develop and implement geotechnical designs and operational instructions to support open pit operations at EKATI.
  • Research and evaluate systems and equipment to improve safety and efficiency in mining operations.
  • Assess geotechnical stability of open pit slopes and wedges, and recommend appropriate ground support.
  • Review and update Ground Control Standards and ensure implementation of the Ground Control Management Plan.
  • Provide geotechnical data to mine engineers to develop optimal mine plans.
  • Complete mine inspections, internal reporting, and issue technical reports as needed.
  • Develop Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Work Instructions (WI) for tasks related to geotechnical responsibilities.
  • Conduct hydrology & hydrogeology studies, provide dewatering designs, and operational instructions to manage water ingress and inrush risk.
Requirements
  • Degree in geotechnical engineering, specializing in rock mechanics or a relevant discipline.
  • Minimum 3-4 years of experience in geotechnical engineering.
  • Designation as a Professional Engineer in the Northwest Territories or working toward the ability to obtain this designation.
  • NWT WCB Supervisor Level One or Level Two certification or the ability to obtain this.
  • Advanced experience with industry software such as RocScience suite, GeoStudio, and Maptek suite.
  • Experience managing multiple mining and/or construction related projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting.
