About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Mould Polisher to join our dynamic Tooling Team at Magna. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for polishing moulds to the required specifications, assembling and disassembling injection moulds, and interpreting specifications from engineering drawings and verbal instructions.
Your Responsibilities
- Polish mould cavities and cores to A Class surface finish using various techniques, including emery cloth, diamond pastes, and polishing compounds.
- Operate hand grinders and polishers, as well as disc grinders and other grinding devices.
- Transfer equipment, objects, or parts to specified work areas using moving devices.
- Complete visual management tools as directed and adhere to 5S requirements in assigned areas.
- Polish plastic injection moulds and components by hand and with reciprocating tools.
- Set up plastic injection moulds and components for polishing and review mould and moulded component specifications to determine the appropriate tools and materials for the polishing process.
- Work with Mold Makers and Supervisors to determine priority and scope of work for each mould and inspect work pieces to ensure surfaces and dimensions meet customer specifications.
Requirements
- Secondary School diploma or equivalent.
- Able to assist with Co-Extrusion die component polishing as required.
- Must possess hand finishing capabilities, hand benching, hard tool steel polishing, and lens grade polishing experience.
- Ability to work well around mould parting lines.
- Familiar with chemical, mechanical, and fluid polishing methods.
- Must be competent to achieve all SPI surface finishes with expert abilities in A1, A2, and A3.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completed Ontario Certificate of Apprenticeship (Mould Maker) highly preferred.
- Ability to TIG weld and laser weld an asset.
