Job Title: Senior Estimator

At RailWorks Corporation, we are seeking a highly skilled Senior Estimator to join our team. As a key member of our estimating department, you will play a critical role in supporting our Pacific Bids & Estimates and developing price proposals for construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review tender documents and attend pre-bid meetings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimates.
  • Analyze tender documents, plans, specs, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Manage quantity surveys and take-offs as required.
  • Develop detailed material lists based on tender documents and specs and forward to Material Manager for pricing.
  • Review and incorporate historical data from prior estimates, purchase agreements, and subcontracts to gain information for current bids.
  • Analyze and evaluate bids from subcontractors for completeness and accuracy in scope of work.
  • Develop scope of work for subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Prepare submission and coordinate for bid day with other staff involved in the estimating process.
  • Ensure compliance with tender documents/requirements.
  • Ensure all general conditions of the tender document are met, including insurance, bonding, and special requirements.
  • Liaise with management for strategic estimate approach and feedback on estimates.
  • Create initial construction schedule and cash flow forecast.
  • Track and follow upcoming projects within SharePoint and update weekly.
  • Prepare and present project turnover package upon award of contract.
Requirements:
  • High school graduation plus post-secondary training in a relevant field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant estimating experience, preferably gained in the construction or railway industry.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency in reviewing contract documents.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency utilizing common business and estimating applications such as Microsoft Office products, Hard Dollar, Explorer, or JD Edwards software.
Working Conditions:
  • This is a full-time office position.
  • Occasional weekend or night work may be required.
  • Occasional exposure to outdoor construction sites in all weather conditions may be required.
  • Majority of the field work is on and around live track (trains).
  • Work may be in urban, rural, or isolated areas. Accommodations and transportation will be provided, if required.
