Job Summary

The School Nurse is a critical role within VON Canada (Ontario) that requires a skilled and compassionate nurse to provide complex pediatric nursing care in a school setting. As a School Nurse, you will work closely with medically fragile children and their families to provide support and education, promoting independence and well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate client clinical records
  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, and caregivers
  • Provide leadership in own professional development
  • Participate in CNO Reflective Practice
  • Knowledge of VON policies and procedures
  • Provide clinical leadership

Requirements
  • Registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Experience working with pediatric clients is preferred
  • Experience in community health is an asset
  • Knowledge of community resources is an asset
  • Excellent assessment, teaching, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt nursing practice to operating independently in a variety of situations
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team
Working Conditions and Physical Demands

This role requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activity including lifting, carrying (using proper techniques), bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics. Individuals in the role are required to walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs throughout the day, with some tasks requiring fine hand movements.
